HOW
TO USE TUTORIALS
Lynda and VTC are commercial sites that offer
step-by-step instruction on applications such as Photoshop and Flash.
Also listed are a number of free sites, offering random tutorials on
how to
do specific things. If you are serious about learning an application,
go no further. Pay the money either to Lynda or VTC, and get on with
your life.
This
page is a tutorials aggregator, offering nothing original. The
Curmudgeon vets each of the sites indexed, giving you some
degree of assurance that the tutorials are of value. Other
aggregators are also listed here. The quality of the tutorials these
other aggreagtors index is not
assessed by The Curmudgeon.
Find your own tutorials using Google. Type site:.edu
"subject" into the search box. Replace "subject"
with the subject that you want--e.g., "Photoshop".
Don't forget the quotes. This method will return educational sites that
quite often have detailed, free tutorials. One such site you might find
in this manner is Swinburne,
shown just below.
Del.icio.us
is a good source of information about
computer applications.
To use it, type your query into the search box at the top of the page
to get sites linked by others interested in a subject. Queries can be
very specific, as for instance a recent query by the Curmudgeon for AS3 filereference,
which yielded 31 links, many of which were pertinent to the process in
question, how to use Flash's fileReference class to upload files to a
server.

TipClique
was conceived and born out of frustration with the sheer
number of tutorial sites available on the ‘net that seemed to
focus on
quantity rather than quality. The issue with quality is that it is
purely a subjective thing, so that’s where you come in. We
believe that
making the TipClique’s content a democratic process will
result in
better quality for all users. So if you see a tutorial you like, be
sure to “Clique It” and it will become more
popular. If you don’t like
a tutorial, just ignore it and if the rest of the community does the
same, it will eventually disappear.

their content and presentation tied up in a knot. Essentially, this
layer allows you to define the template of your
document from within InDesign, and to develop the content of the
document in any text editor. Once the template and content have been
finalized, it is simply a matter of merging the two together, and
exporting the final work to the format of your choice.
